Theater is a vehicle to build character and self-esteem, develop leadership and communication skills, and teach teamwork. Carolina Youth Theatre is pleased to offer classes that give students the opportunity to explore theater for the first time or to continue to enhance performance skills.
​Before you register, please review CYT's health and wellness policies to make sure an in-person class is right for your family.

Registration

  • This spring, in-person classes are available for students in grades K-12. See the course catalog below.
  • Registration is handled online and is processed on a first come first served basis.
  • The registration fee is nonrefundable and must be paid in full in order to secure your student's participation.
  • You will receive an email receipt when your payment has processed. ​
  • Register early, as space is limited.
  • A limited number of need based scholarships are available. To request a scholarship, CLICK HERE.

Location

  • Classes will be held at Purna Yoga East in downtown Clayton. CYT will use the upstairs studio.

Beloved children’s books will leap off the page (and dramatic adventures will abound!) as we explore the fundamentals of stage performance. Students will sharpen their acting skills through story dramatization, theater games, crafts, and other engaging activities. Join us as we inhabit the world of favorite literary characters and create our own exciting stories.

Calling creative thinkers to the stage! Using theater games, movement, vocal activities, and writing exercises, we will develop acting skills, engage our bodies, and spark our imaginations. Together we will explore characters and stories that you know and love, and create original characters who have stories of their own to tell!

Let’s build characters from the ground up! Students will explore the art of characterization by activating their actor’s toolkit – the body, the voice, and the mind. Through focused scene work and acting exercises, students will develop fully realized characters. In addition, students will have the chance to flex their improv skills and work as an ensemble, all in a collaborative environment.

Take your acting skills to the next level and ace your next audition! Students will dive deep into text analysis and characterization through a variety of acting methods. Through focused exercises, students will take on the challenge of both classical and modern text and learn how to develop deep connections with their scene partners and analyze text for intentions and beats of action.
